The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has described President Bola Tinubu’s decision to donate his annual salary to the Nigerian Armed Forces as a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of security personnel.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group noted that the gesture reflects the President’s personal concern regarding the country’s security challenges.
“We note that President Bola Tinubu, as part of activities marking his 74th birthday, announced the establishment of a dedicated welfare fund to support members of the armed forces, particularly those wounded in the line of duty, as well as the families of fallen heroes,” the statement said.
The group acknowledged that the President has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a special account to cater for injured service members, their widows, and dependents.
“We consider this show of compassion as a sign of his determination that those who sacrifice their lives in the service of the country are not abandoned or forgotten. For President Tinubu to shun fanfare associated with birthday celebrations, opting instead for a moment of introspection, is a sign of statesmanship,” the TMV added.
The President also urged the private sector, the National Assembly, and well-meaning individuals to contribute to the fund.
According to the group, the gesture fulfills a solemn obligation to ensure that Nigerian patriots who devote their lives to the service of the country are remembered.
The TMV further commended the President for setting an example by contributing his total annual salaries since 2023 to the fund.
