A member of the House of Representatives, Mr Midala Usman Balami, has called on the Federal Government to intensify security measures and ensure the rescue of abducted persons in parts of Borno State.
Balami, who represents Askira/Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, made the call on Wednesday while moving a motion of urgent public importance on the floor of the House.
The motion, titled “Stop the Incessant Killings in Askira/Uba-Hawul Federal Constituency,” was adopted after the lawmaker invoked Order Eight, Rule Five of the House Standing Orders.
He noted that recent attacks in his constituency had led to multiple deaths, destruction of property, and displacement of residents.
The lawmaker disclosed that between 11 and 15 persons were killed in a recent attack on Popoku village, while about 20 others were abducted along the Buratai–Damboa Road.
He added that several communities, including those in Musa Ward and parts of Hawul, had come under repeated attacks.
“Many people have lost their lives, properties have been destroyed, and socio-economic activities have been disrupted. Families are in distress, and fear has gripped communities across my constituency,” he said.
Balami acknowledged efforts by the federal and Borno State governments to address insecurity but stressed the need for stronger collaboration.
“We must scale up security interventions and strengthen synergy between federal and state authorities to end these attacks,” he added.
The lawmaker urged security agencies to enhance surveillance in affected areas and establish military outposts to prevent further incursions. He also called for the immediate rescue of the abducted victims.
Balami further appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant bodies to provide relief materials, including food, shelter, and psychosocial support, to displaced persons.
He reminded the House that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must be treated with the utmost urgency.
