The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate made this called in Abuja during the Policy Dialogue and Town Hall Meeting in commemoration of the 2024 World Health Day.
The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju, Kachollom said that there will be changes in the health sectors so as to improve the health care services in the country.
The World Health Organization Representative, Nigeria, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo said, closing the gaps to reduce maternal mortality was established on the premises of a strong foundation of human rights.
Dr Mulombo added health is a right and not a privilege for everybody.
“But now we’ve had a lot of initiatives, including primary healthcare. There are some coloration and others accelerated, but what we are seeing is not commercial and investment so it’s really an opportunity to bend the lens and look at it as really a human rights issue.
Where a child miss vaccination, It’s a human rights issue and it should be treated as such it’s a human rights violation.”
