The Tinubu Stakeholders Forum (TSF) has welcomed the deepening security cooperation between the United States and Nigeria, describing it as a vote of confidence in the President Bola Tinubu administration.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Ahmad Sajoh, and Secretary, Danjuma Sada, the forum specifically hailed the US approval of significant funding for counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria and other African countries under the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026.
The TSF maintained that the development reflects a pragmatic shift from mere concern to active collaboration in tackling regional instability.
The statement read in part: “The allocation of over $413m (approximately ₦587bn) for operations under the United States Africa Command reflects a growing acknowledgement that insecurity in West Africa is not a localised challenge, but a shared global threat that demands coordinated international responses.
“TSF notes that this renewed cooperation is the product of deliberate and sustained diplomatic engagement by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which ensured that Nigeria’s security realities were properly understood within the broader context of terrorism, transnational criminality, and regional instability.”
The forum further commended the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for his “strategic role” in recalibrating bilateral discussions with key American institutions.
“The NSA’s efforts at articulating Nigeria’s security challenges, defending the country’s sovereignty, and promoting cooperation over coercion have yielded measurable outcomes,” the forum stated.
The TSF also expressed satisfaction with the operationalisation of the partnership, citing recent deliveries of military equipment and coordinated counter-terrorism actions involving the US Africa Command.
It noted that enhanced intelligence sharing through the Joint Working Group framework has significantly improved Nigeria’s ability to disrupt terrorist networks and protect vulnerable populations.
The group added, “We consider these developments a validation of Nigeria’s shuttle diplomacy and its insistence on mutual respect and shared responsibility. It also underscores the importance of integrating African countries into the global architecture for countering terrorism.”
The forum, however, urged Nigerian authorities to ensure the sustenance of the security cooperation within a transparent and mutually beneficial framework
