Sokoto: CLEEN Foundation decries mass displacement, tasks FG on security

The CLEEN Foundation has expressed grave concern over the mass displacement of residents in several communities in Sokoto State due to escalating insecurity.
In a statement signed by the Executive Director, Peter Maduoma, the foundation noted that the surge in armed conflict in the region has led to dire humanitarian consequences, disrupting livelihoods and exposing civilians to significant risks.
The foundation stated that reports of numerous families fleeing their homes to escape violence have created a humanitarian crisis, increasing the vulnerability of the affected populations to exploitation and injustice.
“The repercussions of this displacement extend beyond immediate safety concerns. Abandoned homes and disrupted economic activities threaten the stability and development of the entire region. Families are facing food shortages, lack of shelter, and inadequate access to essential services,” the statement read.
To address the crisis, the foundation urged the Federal Government to deploy a multifaceted and intelligence-driven security response to Sokoto State to degrade the capacity of armed groups and establish safe corridors for the return of displaced persons. It also called for a total review of the security strategy in the North-West.
The organization further task the state government to prioritize the welfare of displaced persons by providing food, shelter, and medical care. It also called for enhanced collaboration with community leaders for localized intelligence.
The foundation also called on the legislature to exercise its oversight functions by summoning security chiefs to provide accountable plans for restoring peace to the affected areas.
On the part of security agencies, the organization urged security agencies to improve inter-agency collaboration and adopt community-policing approaches to rebuild public trust.
