Palestinian Ambassador Hails UN Sanctions On Israel
Emmanuel Onuh
The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abu Shawesh has hailed the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution to sanctions Israel and imposing an arms embargo on Israel and demanding that that Israel bring and end it’s unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territory no later than 12 months.
This resolution was voted for by 124 out of 193 UN member states meaning that majority of the international communities supports the right of the Palestinian people to self determination and an end to Israeli deadly occupation which has lasted for over 349 days.
Ambassador Shawesh also took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt gratitude to the Nigerian government for its continued support and vote in favor of the resolution along with the other 123 countries.
The ambassador also warned that international law is “on a knife’s edge,” as many countries fail to meet their obligations, referencing a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s actions in the occupied territories.
He says two days ago marked the 76th anniversary of the assassination of UN peace mediator Count Folke Bernadotte by the Jewish militia group called Lehi, whose former leader, Yitzhak Shamir, later became the prime minister of Israel.
Shawesh said that in clear violation of human rights and hideous exploitation, a new investigation conducted by an Israeli newspaper Haaretz shows that Israel has started recruiting asylum seekers ” Israel is recruiting African asylum seekers for life-threatening Gaza war operations and promising them permanent legal status “
He concluded that by stating that, “When we say Israel is a pariah state, we are absolutely correct”.
The death toll of the Palestinian as at the 18 of September has surpassed 41, 272, with 95,551 injured and over 10,000 missing.
