The President of the Nigerian Youth Council (NYC), Comrade Jethro Annum, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Mr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, in Abuja.
Annum, who recently emerged as the leader of the apex youth body on a platform focused on youth empowerment and employment creation, said his administration had begun wide consultations with key stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
In his remarks, the NYC President thanked the Comptroller General for granting audience to his team and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to advancing youth interests through advocacy and policy engagement.
“The Congress has over the years continued to use the instruments of advocacy and diplomatic engagement to seek policy directions that favour Nigerian youth, increase their productivity and participation in economic activities,” Annum said.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “bold and unprecedented reforms,” which he said have stabilized the foreign exchange market, improved access to clean energy, and reduced food inflation.
According to him, “These policies are already having positive multiplier effects on the economy and Nigerian youth. The gains have inspired hope and reaffirmed the President’s commitment to improving the fortunes of Nigerians.”
Annum also praised the Fire Service boss for his leadership and urged him to ensure that the ongoing recruitment exercise is based strictly on merit to promote fairness and inclusivity.
“Your leadership has inspired confidence among Nigerian youth. The professionalism of the Service under your watch has made it a model institution,” he said.
“We appeal that the ongoing recruitment process reflects the virtues of hard work, dedication, and merit principles that embody the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.”
The NYC President called on the federal government to strengthen fire safety infrastructure across the country by equipping the 774 local government areas with modern firefighting equipment to reduce fire-related losses.
He also pledged the Council’s support for the Federal Fire Service in its advocacy for the repeal of the obsolete Fire Service Act and the enactment of a new law to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
In his response, Comptroller General Adeyemi appreciated the visit and commended the NYC for its partnership, assuring that the Service will continue to promote youth inclusion and empowerment.
“We look forward to working closely with youth bodies like the Nigerian Youth Council to ensure inclusion and empowerment within the Service and beyond,” Adeyemi said.
