As Nigeria enters the month of March, the President of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Engr. Annum Jethro T., has called on young Nigerians to move beyond the sidelines and take an active role in the nation’s evolving political landscape.
In a New Month message released on Sunday, the NYC President emphasized that the current transition period requires heightened vigilance and a shift from passive observation to active leadership selection.
The NYC leader reminded the youth of their demographic weight, noting that they constitute over 65 per cent of the country’s voting strength.
“That is not just a statistic—it is power, influence, and responsibility,” he stated. “For years, we have heard that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. But the truth is, there is no distant tomorrow—there is only today. The future we desire must be built now.”
Urging youths to support aspirants with “dignity, integrity, and vision,” Engr. Jethro also encouraged young Nigerians with leadership ambitions to contest for positions without fear.
“For those among us who are ready to step forward and contest for leadership positions, know this: you are not alone. We must support one another, encourage one another, and build a united front.
While calling for patriotism and discipline, the NYC President assured the youth that the Congress remains committed to economic and political empowerment.
“On our part, we will continue to invest in sustainable livelihoods for young people. We are strengthening our consultations locally and internationally to create opportunities, partnerships, and platforms that empower you,” he added.
Concluding his message, Jethro urged the youth to “choose action over apathy” and remain loyal to the ideals of nationhood in their pursuit of justice and progress.
