By Comfort Chukwukelue
The Chairman of Anog Group of Companies, Dr Sampson Uchenna Charles, and his wife have been conferred with Malta’s highest national honour.
The award is in recognition of Charles’ humanitarian service, resilience, and sustained contributions to societal development.
At the ceremony held on January 31 at the Malta Palace, the Maltese Head of State described the recipient as a philanthropist and exemplary leader whose work focuses on improving the lives of ordinary people. He praised Charles as a leader who leads by example, noting that his interventions have addressed social challenges across various communities.
Beyond the personal recognition, the honour is seen as a strategic window to expand youth-focused initiatives between Nigeria and the international community. Leveraging his global networks, the award positions Charles to facilitate mentorship programmes, skills development, and entrepreneurship support for young Nigerians seeking international exposure.
An international legal practitioner and entrepreneur with business interests spanning several countries, Charles has built a reputation for empowering young Nigerians. His mentorship efforts have helped many develop leadership capacity and professional skills.
His leadership philosophy centres on capacity-building and creating opportunities for others. This approach has inspired many young people to take up leadership roles and pursue sustainable development initiatives.
Observers noted that at a time when Nigeria faces complex socio-economic challenges, leaders with global experience and a commitment to grassroots development are vital. Charles’ work reflects a capacity to promote reform, strengthen democratic values, and align local solutions with international best practices.
The Maltese national honour reinforces Charles’ humanitarian legacy and his role as a bridge between global opportunities and Nigeria’s emerging generation of leaders.
