The lawmaker representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ifeoluwa Ehindero, has described the media as a critical partner in driving national development.
Ehindero, who serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, made this disclosure while receiving members of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) at his National Assembly office on Wednesday.
While pledging to partner with the association, the lawmaker commended the ethics and values upheld by ACOE within the digital media space. He noted that his journey to the Green Chamber was bolstered by the immense support he received from journalists at both state and national levels.
“Looking at the responsibilities we have as lawmakers, there is no way we can do this job successfully without partnering with the media,” Ehindero said. “I see ACOE as a noble and innovative organisation. The ethics and values you uphold are highly commendable, and I am looking forward to a sustained working relationship with you.”
Highlighting his achievements in office, the lawmaker revealed that his administration has facilitated employment for over 60 youths in various federal agencies.
“In our first 100 days, we renovated about seven Primary Healthcare Centres and provided essential medical equipment. We also provided delivery kits to over 350 pregnant women. These are unprecedented milestones achieved within a short period, and we have more visions for our constituency,” he added.
He further invited the association to collaborate on his upcoming empowerment programmes scheduled for the next two months to ensure effective coverage and public engagement.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of ACOE, Mr. Shola Akingboye, thanked the lawmaker for his commitment to youth empowerment and the welfare of media practitioners.
Akingboye noted that partnering with the media, particularly online editors, would amplify the impact of the lawmaker’s legislative oversight and grassroots initiatives. He assured that the association would continue to highlight developmental strides that benefit the Nigerian public.
The high point of the visit was the presentation of the “Champion of Journalists Award” to Ehindero in recognition of his contributions to the empowerment of women, youths, and the vulnerable in society.
