Abdullah Shawesh says the IDF is attacking the education infrastructure in Palestine this is after the resent attack on a school building in Gaza where many people were killed and many injured.
In his reaction to the incident during a press briefing with journalists, Shawesh said the Israeli are targeting schools to destroy the moral of the Palestine people who as it stands today are the one of the most educated people in the middle East with over 98% people.
According to him, September 9 which is the international Day to protect education from attack which coincidentally is also the first day of the 2024-25 school year in Palestine. But in Gaza more than 630,000 students are deprived of their rights to enroll in schools, 58,000 to enroll in universities and 39,000 did not take the high school exams.
The attacks on education today has left over 25,000 students dead, mimed or wounded and the destruction of 90% of government school buildings and the majority of UNRWA run schools that are still standing have been turned into shelters for internally displaced persons.
Ambassador Shawesh further stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated to an alarming levels, with the death toll exceeding 41,000 as the conflict marks its 342nd day.
This escalation according to him has drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and ignited outrage over the perceived complicity of international powers, particularly the United States who continue to supply arms to Israel to kill Palestinians as well as its continues disrespect for international laws in the ongoing violence.
Ambassador Abdullah Shawesh says “the State of Palestine decried the actions of Israeli forces, asserting that their campaign against Palestinian civilians has reached a point resembling genocide. “Nations that claim to uphold human rights are neglecting these violations, prioritizing political agendas over the lives of innocent individuals,” he stated.
Shawesh also blamed the Israeli of starvation over the blockages of aid and food supply to the Palestine people by quoting the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) which reported that ” Between 1 and 31 of August 2024 an average of 69 trucks entering Gaza strip per day, this is well below the pre crisis average of 500 trucis per working days resulting to death toll of arising from starvation and dehydration to 37″‘.
The recent killing of an American activist Aysinur Ezgi Eci by Israeli forces at the occupied West Bank who was expressing her solidarity with the Palestinian people also drew the attention of the Ambassador who expressed concerns over why the United States government have not issued a statement condemning the action of the Israeli.
” The question here is why did the US administration saying nothing meaningful about her death and just mumble some empty words , repeating the same lip service it mentioned about the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, the American Palestinian Christian”.
Shawesh called on Human Rights Advocates and the international community to strongly oppose and condemn the genocide going on in Gaza and all the occupied territory’s in Palestine and hold the United States and the Israeli governments accountable for the war crimes they have been committing.
