Abuja, Nigeria – The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has extended its congratulations to Mallam Shehu Dikko following his recent appointment as Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC). The position comes as part of a significant restructuring in Nigeria’s sports administration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who dissolved the Ministry of Sports Development and reconstituted it as the NSC on October 23, 2024.
Hon. Kabiru Amadu, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, lauded the decision, expressing confidence in Dikko’s capabilities. He described the appointment as a crucial step aligned with the Committee’s blueprint to ensure that technocrats manage Nigeria’s sports sector.
“The establishment of the National Sports Commission and the appointment of Dikko are both in line with our vision for Nigerian sports,” said Amadu. “This development marks a significant move toward positioning Nigeria among the leading sporting nations globally.”
Amadu praised Dikko as a “thoroughbred sports professional” and highlighted his extensive experience, which, he believes, will be instrumental in revitalizing Nigerian sports. He also called upon Dikko to utilize his expertise to reinvigorate the sector and uphold Nigeria’s legacy in the global sports arena.
The Honourable member, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, reiterated that Dikko’s appointment reflects the Committee’s objective of seeing qualified technocrats in sports leadership roles. He expressed optimism that the new leadership would restore Nigeria’s prominence in the world of sports.
The Committee extends its best wishes to Dikko as he embarks on his new role, encouraging him to meet the demands of this critical national assignment.
