The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has charged the Super Eagles to remain mentally, psychologically and physically prepared as they advance to the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria secured early qualification for the knockout stage after a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday in their second group match, becoming the second team to book a place in the last 16 of the tournament.
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring after an earlier effort in the 17th minute was ruled out for offside. The forward later received a yellow card for his celebration. Wilfred Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s lead shortly after the restart, giving the Super Eagles greater control of the match.
Ademola Lookman extended Nigeria’s advantage after calmly converting an assist from Osimhen. Tunisia, however, mounted a late resurgence with two goals, creating a tense finish, but the Super Eagles held on to secure maximum points.
Speaking on behalf of the House Committee on Sports Chairman in Morocco, the Deputy Chairman of the committee, Hon. Mohammed Jajere, praised the team’s resilience and composure under pressure.
“On behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, I congratulate the Super Eagles for winning their first two group matches and qualifying for the Round of 16,” he said. “Although the final group match against Uganda is a dead-rubber, it provides an opportunity for the coach to rest some regular players and give others a chance, while keeping focus on the ultimate goal of winning the trophy.”
Hon. Jajere also assured the team of the continued support of the Federal Government and the National Assembly as they pursue continental success.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, currently top their group with six points from two matches, while Tunisia sit second with three points.
