The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has congratulated Nigerian football stars who won prestigious awards at the 2024 African football awards.
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was crowned the 2024 African Footballer of the Year, beating notable contenders such as Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Simon Adingra of Ivory Coast.
Lookman’s achievement was lauded by Honourable Amadu, who stated, “Winning the African best by Lookman is a testament to his hard work, consistency and the true Nigerian spirit of resilience and doggedness.”
The lawmaker, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed his pride in Lookman’s achievement, noting that it underscores Nigeria’s position as a hub for football talent in Africa.
“I am particularly happy for the young man and it has once again shown that Nigeria is the biggest talent factory on the continent when it comes to football and as a country we must ensure that we continue to play a leading role as the giant of Africa that we are,” Honourable Amadu said.
He also expressed optimism that Lookman’s achievement would serve as a catalyst for the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup campaign.
The Super Falcons also received accolades, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie winning the Best Women’s Goalkeeper award, and the team emerging as the Women’s Team of the Year.
Honourable Amadu assured that the House Committee on Sports would continue to support the growth of women’s football in Nigeria.
“For Chiamaka Nnadozie and the Super Falcons, I want to assure that the House Committee on Sports will continue to support the growth of women football and assist the Nigeria Football Federation in every way possible so that Nigeria will continue to remain number one in women’s football on the continent,” he concluded
