Nigeria’s Home-Based Super Eagles have secured a spot in the 2025 Championship of African Nations Cup (CHAN), defeating Ghana’s Black Galaxies 3-1 in the final qualifying match. This victory marks Nigeria’s return to the CHAN tournament since 2018.
Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, expressed his excitement about the team’s achievement. “Picking the CHAN ticket for the first time since 2018 is a sign for many good achievements in sports, particularly in football,” he said.
Amadu congratulated the Home-Based Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on their achievement. “I urge them to build on this success going into 2025, so that at the end of next year, football will put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.”
The Chairman also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “Despite not too bright hopes for Super Eagles picking the 2026 World Cup ticket following their position on the log, this feat has raised my hope and that of many Nigerians that the three-time African champions will qualify.”
The 8th Championship of African Nations Cup is scheduled to take place in February 2025, co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
