Chairman, House Committee on Sports Hails Super Eagles’ 4-0 Triumph, Urges Focus Ahead of Morocco Playoffs
By Comfort Chukwukelue,
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in a crucial Group C encounter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The match, held in Uyo, saw Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen put up a stellar performance with a sensational hat-trick, while midfielder Frank Onyeka sealed the win with a late strike. The resounding victory secured Nigeria’s place in the CAF playoffs scheduled to take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16, 2025.
Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, commended the team for their determination, passion, and discipline throughout the match. He described the performance as “a proud moment for Nigerian football and a testament to the team’s resilience.”
“While the mission is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating this vital win and wishing the team every success in the upcoming playoff,” Hon. Amadu stated.
The lawmaker noted that the optimism sweeping across the country reflects the deep faith Nigerians have in the Super Eagles’ ability to qualify for the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 2026.
He assured the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the team’s technical crew of the National Assembly’s continued support as the players prepare for their decisive qualification stage.
“The National Assembly and the Federal Government remain committed to supporting the team in every way possible. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too. We all look forward to seeing you proudly represent our country on the global stage,” he added.
The Super Eagles currently sit third among the best-performing second-placed teams in the CAF qualification standings, behind Gabon and Cameroon. The rankings were recently adjusted following the withdrawal of Eritrea from the qualifiers — a development that affected the comparative points across the groups.
Nigeria now holds 15 points with a goal difference of +7, edging slightly ahead of Burkina Faso, who have an equal number of points but a goal difference of +6.
Football analysts say the team’s renewed form under Coach Finidi George and the explosive return of key players like Osimhen could boost Nigeria’s chances in the playoffs, as fans eagerly await a return to the World Cup stage after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
As the nation celebrates the victory, Hon. Amadu’s message serves as both encouragement and a reminder that the journey to global glory is far from over — urging the Super Eagles to remain focused, united, and hungry for success as they prepare for the all-important playoffs in Morocco.
