THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has received 600 bags of cement from an indigenous firm, Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited, to facilitate the completion of its ultramodern congress hall project.
The first tranche of 300 bags was delivered during a handover ceremony in Abuja, supervised by Arc. Junias John Akaito and Mr. Kolade Oluwajuwon Olaoye. Stakeholders described the gesture as a milestone in the council’s drive to provide a befitting edifice for journalists in the nation’s capital.
Receiving the materials, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, commended the CEO of Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited, Dr. Christian Olatunji, for identifying with the media and investing in infrastructure that strengthens professional engagement.
She described the donation as timely, noting that the building would serve as a hub for professional development, training, and welfare coordination.
“This gesture is a clear demonstration of confidence in the Nigerian media. The NUJ FCT Council is committed to building a functional hall that will serve as a centre for innovation and the overall welfare of our members,” she said.
Comrade Ike assured the donors of transparency and accountability in the use of the materials, reiterating the council’s resolve to deliver a project that stands the test of time.
Representatives of Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited stated that the intervention by Dr. Olatunji was inspired by the media’s role in national development and democratic consolidation. They added that the support aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals regarding institutional capacity building.
Council members present at the event described the donation as exemplary, urging other corporate organisations and public-spirited individuals to emulate the gesture.
Upon completion, the congress hall is expected to house offices and training facilities to enhance journalism practice in the Federal Capital Territory. The council, however, appealed for further partnerships from the private sector and government agencies to ensure the speedy completion of the project.
