Senate President Godswill Akpabio, principal officers of the senate and his colleagues, on Thursday, joined their female counterparts to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration.
The female senators included Senators Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, Idiat Adebule, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Ireti Kingibe among others.
Akpabio said “on behalf of the 10th assembly “extend a heartfelt appreciation acknowledging the unwavering support and invaluable contributions made by Nigerian women to the great nation”.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continually honor and support women in every respect.
“You can see that celebrating woman’s day is something the senate is not used to, but the 10th assembly is gender friendly, and we have decided to honor the 5 women in our midst, every other woman out there and our female children,” he added.
Recall, that The international women’s day became an annual event in 1910 after a protest match by women workers in 1908 advocating for the rights of women.
