
Akpabio Condemns Maltreatment of Super Eagles in Libya, Demands Probe and Sanctions.
Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has strongly condemned the ill-treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their delegation in Libya during the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described the incident as “unacceptable” and a “breach of the principles of fair play and sportsmanship” in international football.
“The reported mistreatment of our players is not only unacceptable but also a stark reminder of the disregard for human dignity and lack of respect for international norms,” Akpabio said.

“We will not tolerate any form of mistreatment or disrespect towards our nationals, regardless of the circumstances,” Akpabio emphasized.
Akpabio also called on the international football community to condemn the unacceptable behavior and support Nigeria’s demand for justice.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials have welcomed Akpabio’s stance, saying, “We appreciate the Senate President’s swift response and commitment to protecting Nigerian athletes.”
The incident has sparked outrage among Nigerian football fans, with many calling for severe sanctions against Libya.
