Hon. Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise and the sole African Democratic Congress (ADC) member in the National Assembly, has publicly distanced himself from recent statements made by Chief Ralph Nwosu, the party’s National Chairman. Nwosu had alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was using public funds to prevent planned protests.
In a press briefing held in Abuja on Monday, Abejide asserted that Nigeria needs patience and support for President Tinubu’s administration rather than protests. He acknowledged the nation’s current hardships but emphasized that the president’s transformative policies require time to yield results.
Abejide praised President Tinubu’s administration for its bold reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, which has led to significant achievements such as reducing petrol importation by 50% and enhancing investor confidence. He highlighted that Tinubu’s 8-Point Renewed Hope Agenda aims to address key areas such as national security, economic stability, and infrastructure development.
“While the challenges we face are real and pressing, it is crucial that we support an administration making genuine strides towards long-term improvement. Governance involves strategic, step-by-step progress, not immediate fixes,” Abejide said.
He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to focus on constructive engagement rather than protests. “Let us work together to ensure that the positive changes being implemented are felt nationwide. With patience and collective effort, we can overcome our current difficulties and achieve a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” Abejide concluded.
