
HOUSE COMMITTEE ON SPORTS CHARGES MINISTRY ON STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR 2028 OLYMPICS

The House Committee on Sports has called for a robust planning strategy ahead of the 2028 Olympics, following Nigeria’s disappointing outing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kabiru Amadu emphasized that Nigeria cannot afford to repeat the poor performance, where the country failed to win a single medal.
During the Committee’s first official interactive meeting with Sports Minister Senator John Enoh, Hon. Amadu stressed that Nigerian sports have come a long way, making it unacceptable to struggle with podium finishes at major global competitions.
The Committee presented a blueprint to revamp Nigerian sports, focusing on oversight and funding support for the Sports Ministry and federations. The Chairman also presented a ₦100 million cheque to the Sports Minister and Nigeria Olympics Committee President Habu Gumel, fulfilling a promise made to Team Nigeria before the Paris Olympics.
