Nigeria proudly marked its 64th Independence Day, commemorating its liberation from British colonial rule. The day’s festivities commenced with a Presidential address broadcast nationwide, setting a tone of reflection and hope for the future.
A highlight of the celebrations was the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (URNI) novelty football match held in Abuja, aimed at fostering unity and positive change through sports. The match, featuring the City Gates Sport Club (CGS), brought together diverse members of society in a spirited display of camaraderie and patriotism.
Amb Dele Momoh, a member of URNI’s Board, emphasized the significance of the event in celebrating Nigeria’s rich heritage and promoting collaboration among various sectors. “This match symbolizes our collective journey towards a brighter future,” he stated.
President and Founder of the Flag Foundation, Dr. Chris Agiri, highlighted the importance of community engagement, youth involvement, and teamwork, all essential to URNI’s mission of rebranding Nigeria.
In his remark, Brigadier General David Shajaba (Rtd), Chairman of URNI’s Board of Trustees, called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to embrace unity, sports, and cultural harmony. “We must maintain tolerance as we build our nation,” he urged.
President of CGS, Dr. Akomolafe Adeboye, also echoed these sentiments, advocating for collaboration and healthy competition as a means to inspire patriotism and optimism. “Sport is a powerful unifying force that can foster a sense of responsibility and unity among us,” he remarked.
The football match not only entertained but also featured awards and certificates for deserving individuals, networking opportunities, and refreshments, enriching the celebration with various engaging activities.
As Nigeria continues its journey toward growth and unity, the spirit of independence remains alive, underscoring the importance of togetherness in shaping a prosperous future for all.
